First run for the Calgary SUAR fan club

I weenied out of my swim this morning. What with a really poor sleep, being up really early to feed the Mammal that Meows in the Night, relieved several kinds of bio pressures, I went back to bed and fell asleep. I figured this was better than trying to swim while feeling cranky.

Here we are, almost ready to run. As far as I know we are the only two members of the Calgary chapter of the SUAR fan club. Those being defined as owning shirts. There's a couple other people here that I know read her blog, but I don't know who's bought a shirt. They are great shirts to run in, btw. We've been buddies quite a while now, and are just getting around to running together.

I added a long sleeved tech shirt, and S from The Mama Runs added a jacket, since by Calgary standards for this time of the year, it was really warm. Just above zero (32 F), and a beautiful sunny day. We ran almost exactly 6 K nice and easy, in about 45 minutes. I didn't wear my watch, and we had a lovely chat. The view of downtown is pretty spectacular from the ridge. I haven't been up there for many years, and there's been lots of changes. Next time I'll take her through Fish Creek.

Afterward was more chatting, fondue dinner, and yet more chatting. Their child is delightful.

On the way home it was just starting to snow, and by the time we got home it was snowing pretty hard. For the first time in many, many years, we had to go through a Checkstop. Right on Crowchild near 26th. They didn't want to talk to us. Glad to see these out and about.

  1. Glad to see that you both got home safely. Still no snow here at 1:15 am.

The run was very enjoyable, looking forward to doing this again!!

  3. Nice job on the run. I wish I'd gotten out yesterday. Today it's moving into the "bloody cold" realm of things.

  4. There was a snowflake or two leaving your place, and it got steadily harder. By the time we got home there was fresh snow on the grass, and the street was starting to snow over. Now there is lots of snow. Look out spin session! Totally an indoor day today.

  5. You sure needed something and I'm glad this did it for you. I've been reading about your cousin and it makes me sick to think of it. That things like that still happen is a great shame on our society. Take comfort where you can during the tough times coming. I'll be thinking of you and send down a big hug.

  6. Sometimes it really hard to get the outdoor workouts done in Calgary. Days like yesterday make it all worthwhile. I'm totally going to put on a movie and have a long spin session today!

  7. It was very cold today, but I still ran outside today! I think it was safer for me to run than to drive....

  8. Love the shirts! Might get one myself once I get rid of this belly!

  9. Is the SUAR thing a national or even international organization, or just specific to Calgary? I like the Tshirts. Good for you for getting out there for a run. And also, I love the term "weenied out."

  10. I'm really pleased with mine. Fits just right, no chafing. S really likes hers as well, I think she said she had two of them. Once you get a shirt, then you have to run with us.

  11. Well, there are SUAR readers everywhere, I think. But as far as I know, we are the only two people in Calgary with her shirts. So therefore, ipso facto, we are the leaders of the Calgary chapter of the fan club.

Maybe that would make us an entourage. I won't ask if it makes us stalkers, because I know at least one reader that would shout out a huge YES! At least as far as I'm concerned.
