751 photos later I went home with a big grin. I even got some sausage and pancake. One of the volunteers had been making Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, and I scored one of those. Unlike many breakfasts, it was perfectly cooked.
This was the first event I've shot since December 2019 that felt almost normal. The people serving wore masks, as did some of the guests. Most people wore masks in the lineup because we asked, but then relaxed once they got to a table. We never really had a big long line, and once the first lump was served, people strolled up, and mostly didn't worry.
It was fun! It's hard to put across how nice it felt to be outside with friends and neighbours and not afraid of getting a life-altering disease. I overheard many people mentioning they'd had both shots. When you're watching people while looking for a photo, you notice how they behave. Yesterday they were mostly back to normal. A bit cautious about spacing, but not bent out of shape. Kids running and playing. Adults sitting and chatting. If you're interested in the 219 photos, there is a link to them on my community page here.
Today is another big day. I'm just finishing coffee, and was out in great light for some flower and bee shots. No time to edit just now, stay tuned.
Here's a random portrait, not from yesterday, not a serendipity, but from the ferry crossing to Stewart Island.

Great job on the breakfast photos. Looks like a fun time and it was reassuring seeing so many masks. I've been very worried about Alberta on account of the delta variant. Hope vaccinations help protect from the worst of it out there. Zero new cases in the Atlantic region yesterday, which is awesome.
