More clouds

Clouds in Alberta are sometimes bland, like the formless oppressive sheet repressing us in the winter. Sometimes they are photogenic, lit up by the sun in interesting ways, or have wonderful shapes. And sometimes they are absolutely spectacular.

So we start with some sunrise photos from September.

5. Then we move on to later the same day, during Neil's tour of the Foothills. This was the single best day for light in 2021, and right up there for best ever. It wasn't just a few minutes, it was most of the day. Great light transforms an ordinary scene into something wonderful. We had a lovely scenic drive down towards Chain Lakes, then across towards highway 2, then home again. There were many stops along the way. Many! We couldn't get over these clouds!

For those of you interested in my community association photos, I did a Skate with Santa on the weekend. Well, I didn't skate, the kids did. Santa showed up. The kids and even some of the adults sat with him. The light was wonderful, and there's a ton of good photos. Check out my photoblog

Don't hesitate on the AMA! I'm beginning to think of people, and questions, fueled up by this.

  1. What a great set of cloud scapes. I have a minor quibbles with 7 and 11. In 7, the line of lit grass on the right means that the horizon line doesn't read straight, and that detracts from the impact of the clouds. 11 presents the question on how much or how little foreground to add to a reflection. I'm not convinced that the right balance has been achieved in this case. This question of foreground in a reflection is a subtle composition one and one I am still trying to get right. Cheers, Sean
