I've taken a few vacations from Facebook. When I looked again I promised myself that I'd only look at the top couple items, and see if anyone had sent me a DM. Well, so much for good intentions. I found myself doom scrolling recently. The next day I stumbled on an article about addiction, and realized I was almost certainly addicted to Facebook. The only way out was go cold turkey and whenever the urge to look happened, do something else. Reading a book or going for a walk were mentioned as practical alternatives.
So a few minutes ago I put a goodbye note on my wall and logged out. I don't intend to log in again, just as I haven't logged into Instagram for a long time now and don't miss it in the slightest.
The book I started reading instead is A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. It's an engaging and easy read. I'm quite enjoying it.
I got several nice comments about the 'not a tourist photo' blog post, thank you very much! Number 9 seemed to be the most favoured image from an admittedly small sample size.
So onto more New Brunswick photos. Today I'll show you some experiments with time, though not Third Vault Falls or Laverty Falls. A couple of them have shown up for you, but there's more that are good enough to deserve their own blog.
As with the trip to Newfoundland, I'd hoped to find nice waves crashing over rocks. And like that trip, we had great weather and small waves. Part of the trick to interesting long exposure photos is to have something that moves in the photo with something that doesn't move. Water and rocks is one example. Here's a couple scenes I was working, trying different angles and different exposures. 7 is perhaps the most successful in showing what I was trying to capture, and it isn't really that good an example. The waterfalls are much better. Stay tuned.

Congratulations on saying goodbye to the time suck called FB. I get distracted by the reels. Some are actually interesting and others are pablum and yet I persist :(
ReplyDeleteI quite enjoyed the 01-09 series.
~ 01 - works very well
~ 03, 04 - I usually I don't give much heed to the even is better than odd rule. But, today I find the rock at the bottom of the frame out of place.
~ 06 - I like this and it makes me smile. Two rock creatures slowly travelling.
~ 09 - Nice diagonal structure. I find the two pieces of shell / stick distracting
~ 17 - Another nice use of diagonal lines
~ 19 - The gorgosaurus should not be confused with gorgonzola.
Cheers
