October Image of the Month

Of course all these images are from our New Brunswick trip. But you knew that before following the link. One of the images I had in mind for the trip was the beautiful red and deep orange maple and oak leaves as they changed colour, ideally reflected in a calm body of water. As it turns out on the Atlantic coast, there is not much calm in the bodies of water. Still, I remained hopeful, working on capturing  colour where ever I could.

2nd Runner Up
I'm on the Kelly's Beach boardwalk, working the scene, trying to find a good composition where I could just let the camera run. I was starting to work facing the opposite direction from this, when a woman comes along with this giant lantern flashlight thingie. I was choked at first, because when doing astro photos, you want to be in control of any light that isn't coming from the sky, and her lantern was so bright it was hurting my eyes. Then I realized what she was really going to be doing was light painting the boardwalk for me. I turned the camera around, checked focus and time, and waited. Ta da! For once the unforeseen bystander cooperated. If you look really closely you can even see her. As it turns out, the skies above New Brunswick are filled with airplanes. I'm pretty sure that every single night sky photo I took there has an airplane in it somewhere, or a satellite. Stay tuned for the composite images.

1st Runner Up
As of the last full day of our trip I had not seen calm water. We were heading up to Bouctouche, crossing the single lane bridge in Shediac Bridge, when Linda said, "Look at the water, reflections!" I pulled over into the busy parking lot for the local take out restaurant, and took my life in my hands to walk back along the bridge. This first one is looking east.

Image of the Month
From the same place as above, on the other side of the bridge, looking west. I've got a bunch of really similar photos, hoping to get a good one. Calm water at high tide would be even better, but I'll take it. The seagulls posed very nicely.
