Jasper 3, Maligne Canyon

I'll tell you right now, if you aren't into interesting rock shapes and water, and vegetation in precarious places, bail out now. This is Maligne Canyon. It might not be the gold standard for such things, but it's right up there.

I knew this was a tough place for lens selection, and I didn't want to be carrying the whole pack. I knew it was deep enough that I'd want the 70-200mm, and I dithered about taking the 14mm or 24-105mm. Eventually decided on the later, assuming I could stitch together multiple photos if the situation warranted. As it turns out it didn't, but there are a few places I'd have probably used the 14mm just to see how it turned out.

We got there in the early afternoon with overcast light. Only a few people around, but of course they were all in the places for a good photo.

2. I'm pretty sure someone put that central stone there. Someone that was either tied off or were extremely foolhardy. It's a very long way down.

3. I spent a while working the tangle of driftwood to find a composition and didn't.

4. Two views of the same bit.

7. I really liked that chunk of rock jutting out.

8. A slightly different angle, in black and white.

11. I love seeing the places where plants and trees will grow.

12. Different views and shutter speeds of the same waterfall.

15. It's not just trees jammed up, there's a rock as well.

17. I wondered of some tightrope artist has ever tried this.

18. Rock colours and textures just fascinate me. Plus the vegetation growing in every possible place, till the water washes it away again, what's not to like?

22. Like I said, it's a very long way down.

28. How big can this tree get before it falls off?

Since you've slogged through 33 related photos, which is a lot for the blog, I think today I'll pass on the Of the Day feature. I wouldn't want to overload you. Stay tuned for a Flowery Friday tomorrow.
