The bonus was not electrocuting myself

However, the same cannot be said for the external hard drive. I think I killed the power supply when I turned off the power to install new smoke detectors. Or maybe when the power went back on. Oops. I do have a recent off-site backup, and the drive is in the capable hands of a data recovery shop.

But in the meantime, there are no images. Hang tough. Also in the mean time, we should have replaced those smoke detectors a decade or so ago.

So the learnings for today.
One. Smoke detectors have a lifetime. Check yours.
Two. Backups are good. When did you last back up your data?

In other news, I'm still fuming about my phone, off and on. Anyone have any advice about migrating from the iPhone to something else? Do you have a phone you like, or really dislike?

  1. I am sorry to hear about the hard drive - not good. I'm glad to here you had a recent off-site backup. fyi I use Idrive. Unfortunately the servers are in the US but backup is encrypted, which means if I loose the key, the data is lost. I'm still liking my Motorola Vision One bought for about 350. Cheers, Sean

  2. Dang, I hit publish before I meant to. Oh, well. Just meant to say that I've been thinking seriously about putting my favourite photos in photo books so I don't end up losing everything if I lose access to the electronic files somehow. When I'm old and grey, I think I might like looking through books more than electronic images.
