So a huge turnout

Even though I'm not really following the election anymore, since I've voted, there was a huge turnout during the advanced polls. I'm glad that people are getting out and getting it done. If you haven't done so, you'll have to put up with whatever the line up is on election day. Last time was a shambles. But go vote!

Higher turnouts are normally associated with people motivated to vote. Often that's to vote for a change, and that might be true this time. I mean, what have the NDP ever done for us, aside from the aqueduct, sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health? Plus rescue us from nearly 40 years of Conservative incompetence, (everybody after Lougheed) wasting one of the great historical windfalls.

Or maybe, just maybe, the young, the educated, the women, the LBGTQ and other believers in human rights, those on the recently raised minimum wage, and anyone that is not rich, white, male, or corporate, are voting to prevent a change. We can but hope.

In other news, I'm not French, or Catholic, but I'm in tears about the Notre Dame fire. Some things are not just priceless, but have become part of the cultural heritage of humanity.

There is no connection between the photo and the rest of the blog. I chanced to see it as I was scrolling through the unblogged photos. There are a couple sets I must get around to, the trees, the murals. Maybe I should add to the driftwood of the day, and do a mural of the day. Hmmm. Any feedback?

Driftwood of the Day
Here I am in Napier, strolling a beach that's actually hard to walk on. The gravel moves and shifts under your feet if you're walking above the high tide line. Below it things are a bit more firm, but there's the risk of some waves catching you. I think of myself as a strong swimmer, and I wouldn't dream of playing in that surf.

This is where the driftwood photos start to get interesting, with little rocks joining the scene. I hope you're liking this feature, because there's enough photos in the pipeline now to keep me going till about the end of this year.

  1. I like series (stop the press - news flash) and therefore my vote is for either or but I have a preference for the mural idea. Cheers, Sean
