My quad hates me

The right one. Last year I tried to push through, and paid with a year of cranky leg. I don't want to do that again. I've been resting it, stretching, rolling with the stick, and a ball. I'm trying to keep my knee moving at work, not getting locked into one position. I've got full range of motion, but trying to do squats or bending my knee with weight on it, requires careful planning.

And still it's not relaxing. Sitting cross legged in yoga tonight I could feel the top of the quad where it anchors into the hip, throbbing, grumbling, almost cramping. Even walking I can feel it, and going up stairs is a bit of a trial. I feel that down at the top of the knee.

What's funny is that from last year I know that running will not hurt. In fact, it feels pretty good for a little while. Then I pay big time as it locks up, no matter what I do for stretching and stuff. I think it's time to head to the clinic near me that does the IMS stuff. That seemed to do good things last time.

There's been some water running and a bit of swimming, but not as much as I'd like. No actual running since the 15 K around the reservoir mid-March. I'm feeling like I'm in the middle of Ironman training again, dragging my butt around from place to place. Sleep isn't refreshing me as much as I'd like.

It doesn't help this is still going on. This happened to be Sunday, but it snowed again today, fortunately after I was done with the BBQ. (Bison burgers and marinated chicken thighs, in case you were wondering.)

I'm sure that if I could be outside in shorts and a t shirt, my leg would feel much better. Yes, I'm positive. Any time now. Real soon now. Any day. Sigh.

  1. Yes, I believe Mother Nature is going through menopause and has decided to make us all suffer along with her (I can say this from a 'been there, done that' perspective, in case your'e wondering ;) Stoopid winter!!!

Not good about the thigh, Keith. Hope the clinic can give you some insight and information on getting it back to normal - and get you back out running comfortably.

    1. If it was nature's menopause, wouldn't we be getting hot flashes? So far it's been nothing but cold, and snow. I think tonight I'll try alternate hot and cold, much as it will disturb the cat.

  2. Oh no!!!!! You have been so careful about post-run stretching and doing a variety of activities, running, biking, swimming, yoga. I'm pretty sure wine (another of your activities) works as a muscle relaxant if the IMS clinic doesn't work fast enough. Good luck. You are wise to listen to the bod.
